Genebank
Gene Bank
Totalling 151,348 accessions from 2,912 species and 758 genera the IPK Gene Bank holds one of the largest collections of crop plants and their wild relatives.
The IPK Genebank Information System (GBIS) offers the possibility to obtain information about the holdings of the Federal Ex situ Collection by specifying free or scientific search criteria. After creating a user account you have access to the integrated ordering system.
Small quantities of seed and planting material are available for exchange between gene banks and botanical gardens. The Gene Bank of the IPK Leibniz Institute is not a commercial supplier of seeds and plants.
The delivery is made against a handling fee for the provision and shipping of the samples. In general, a standardised Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA) must be signed between the recipient and the IPK upon material delivery. After receipt of the signed SMTA or after an online confirmation of the SMTA, the ordered material is usually shipped within four weeks. In the case of large orders, or if the current availability of seed and planting material is limited, processing may take longer. In this case, the purchaser will be informed.
If you have questions about accessions or orders, or general questions about the Genebank Information System or the Gene Bank in general, please contact us. The order itself is usually placed only via the Genebank Information System.
