Ressourcengenetik und Reproduktion
Die Arbeitsgruppe trägt die zentrale Verantwortung für das Management der Gaterslebener Genbankkollektion, inklusive der Langzeit-Kühllagerung, dem kontinuierlichen Reproduktionsanbau und der Bereitstellung des Materials für Nutzer. Im Samenkühllager (Standort Gatersleben) werden derzeit ca. 130.000 Genbankmuster (Akzessionen) in insgesamt fünf Kühlzellen bei einer Temperatur von minus 18°C aufbewahrt.
Jedes Jahr werden ca. 12.000 Akzessionen auf ihre Keimfähigkeit getestet und mehr als 20.000 Proben für Forschungs- und Züchtungseinrichtungen weltweit bereitgestellt. Nahezu 10.000 Akzessionen befinden sich jährlich im Reproduktionsanbau, während etwa 1.500 Genbankherkünfte als Dauerkulturen in vivo erhalten werden.
Ein Qualitätsmanagement System wurde gemäß ISO 9001:2015 etabliert, um interne Managementabläufe zu verbessern. Die vollständige Dokumentation aller Arbeitsschritte garantiert, dass die langjährigen Erfahrungen und das Wissen des derzeitigen Personals zum Nutzen künftiger Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter erhalten bleibt.
Wichtige Forschungsthemen der Gruppe sind Untersuchungen zur Langlebigkeit von Saatgut, Studien zur genetischen Diversität sowie die umfangreiche Evaluierung und genetische Charakterisierung verschiedener Genbanksortimente. Insbesondere für Getreide werden Segregations- und Assoziations-Kartierungspopulationen genutzt, um Gene zu detektieren, die für die Zielmerkmale verantwortlich sind.
Das Hauptinteresse besteht in agronomisch wichtigen Eigenschaften einschließlich der Toleranz gegenüber abiotischem Stress. Diese Arbeiten sind dem IPK-Forschungsschwerpunkt "Erschließungskonzepte für Pflanzengenetische Ressourcen" zugeordnet und erfolgen in enger Zusammenarbeit mit molekular und biochemisch ausgerichteten Arbeitsgruppen des IPK sowie vielen Partnern anderer Institutionen im In- und Ausland.
