Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in the field of Machine Learning in Plant Genomics
Bewerbungszeitraum vom bis
Referenznummer 23/04/25

The Network Analysis and Modelling group investigates how genetic variation shapes gene regulation, protein function, and, ultimately, observable plant traits. Using machine learning and network analysis, we aim to enhance crop performance through the discovery and annotation of gene variants that can guide breeding and gene-editing approaches.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and lead the development and application of machine learning methods to large-scale genomic data generated at IPK-Gatersleben, with a focus on the impact of genetic variation on gene regulation.

Your tasks:

  • Development and application of machine learning methods to genomic data.
  • Collaboration with geneticists, breeders, and industry partners to translate research findings into practical applications.
  • Management of data according to F.A.I.R. principles.
  • Initiation of new projects and mentoring of MSc and PhD students.
  • Scientific communication through publications and presentations.

Your qualifications and skills:

  • You hold a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in data science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or a closely related field.
  • You have a strong background in machine learning (e.g., deep learning and statistical modeling).
  • You have knowledge of molecular genetics and genomics.
  • You have a very good command of English (both spoken and written).
  • You have the proven ability to conduct independent research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.

You fit to us:

  • If you have strong interest in plant genomics and machine learning.
  • If you have a strong scientific curiosity and motivation.
  • If you are able to work autonomously and in a team.

We offer you:

  • A dynamic research environment and access to state-of-the-art facilities, with a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • An international, interdisciplinary team that values open communication and flat hierarchies.
  • A collegial atmosphere that supports work–life balance and flexible working arrangements.
  • A project-based position starting 1. June 2025, limited for 2 years.
  • A gross salary up to 100 % E13 TV-L.
